Kevin F. Gilbert
Candidate for NEA Executive Committee

My name is Kevin F. Gilbert and I am a candidate for NEA Executive Committee.  First of all, let me say that I am a sixteen year educator, and my current position is President of the Mississippi Association of Educators (MAE).  I have been president since 2007, and it has been an unbelievable experience.  My work as an education advocate on behalf of the MAE membership has been a very rewarding journey, and has shown me more than ever the importance of creating voice; a voice not only on behalf of public education and students, but also creating voice for the education profession.  It is this passion for advocating and creating voice that is motivating me to seek a place on the NEA Executive Committee, coupled with a desire to continue to give back to the greatest profession in the world.  Stewardship is very important, and I take my role as a servant leader seriously.  I have been blessed to have the opportunity to serve the members of MAE, and I look forward to serving the entire membership of the National Education Association.

In addition to serving MAE members as their president, I have had the opportunity to serve in various leadership roles for the National Education Association, including serving as Chair of the Small States Caucus for two years, and as Vice President for Governance of the National Council of State Education Associations (NCSEA) for the past three years.   I am also presently serving as Chair of the NEA Human and Civil Rights Committee and as a member of NEA’s G27 transformation team, which meets quarterly to examine ways to strengthen NEA and make this association stronger than ever.   My motto is “Future Driven Leadership” and my platform is guided by four principles that I believe will lead NEA to a prosperous future: Growth, Respect, Inclusion, and Power.  I look forward to discussing my candidacy and us working together to guide the future course of the NEA.

Sincerely,

Kevin F. Gilbert
